'Do they know its Christmas?'
As everyone knows by now, the who-is-who of British music just got together to re-record 'Do they Know its Christmas' which was originally done 20 years ago for the famine in Ethiopia but is now being recorded for Darfur.
My thoughts:
1. How dare Justin Hawkins try and take Bono's line? Bono is the lead singer of the greatest music group in history (U2) and Hawkins is lead singer of The Darkness who a)suck b) Have achieved jackshit compared to U2 and c) Justin has a stupid voice. If Bono wants to sing the line standing on his head with a ukelele , he could bloody well do it. He has earned it.
2. How can you sing a song about whether the poor, starving people know if it is Christmas? Do you think they care? They are too busy starving to death to be preoccupied about the holiday season. How about changing the chorus and making it a bit more sensitive to the reality?
3. Infact, why didnt they just write and compose a completely different song? Smacks of laziness- "Oh, lets just dust down that old song we did twenty years ago and release it again" and its not even a particularily good song mind you.
That said, good gesture and I would really like to meet Bob Geldolf the man who has engineered both band-aids. I would give him a hug, because that man is a true hero.
